A church circle is a small group of women who have an informal gathering on a regular basis for Christian friendship that typically involves a Bible study, great conversation, socialization, laughter and often a sweet
treat or potluck. Meeting places can be at one’s home, at the church, at a park or some other setting. The Bible study can come from various sources.
This Circle was started by Jan Franck as an evening circle group option for women. Lydia Circle has been
studying various books over the last several years. We each read the chapter ahead of time and come to
the discussion with things we found interesting or have questions on. (Please note that reading ahead of
time is not required to participate as the discussions are still beneficial even without reading the study
material.) We meet monthly and take turns hosting for the month at either someone’s home or the church.
We usually have a holiday potluck and a summer potluck at the park. Lydia Circle has also completed a
couple of overnight retreats over the years. There are ministries circles can be part of. Lydia Circle sends out
“Thinking of You” and “Sympathy” cards every month and we have hosted soup suppers at Lent, hosted
Community Dinner meals and provided raffle baskets for the Harvest Dinner. Costs are minimal to the costs
of the reading material for the study. Lydia Circle does take up a free-will offering that goes towards the cards, postage and other ministries in the church.
We are currently studying the book “Return to the Root” by Joyce Rupp. We will most likely be starting a new
book in June. Look for book details in the newsletter. If you are interested in joining Lydia Circle or even
joining us one month just to see what it’s about, please reach out to Jodi Mai at 715-214-8071.
